1. How to Delete Your Account

This action is permanent

Deleting your account removes your personal data from SOKONI systems. Financial and tax records required by Kenyan law are retained for 7 years. This action cannot be undone.

Self-service deletion (fastest method)

  1. Sign in to your account at mysokoni.co.ke
  2. Tap your profile photo in the top-right corner to open your profile
  3. Go to Settings → Privacy → Delete Account
  4. Read the confirmation, type DELETE in the confirmation box, and tap Permanently Delete My Account
  5. Your account is deactivated immediately. Deletion is completed within 30 days.

Cannot sign in? Use the Data Rights Request Form below. We will verify your identity manually and process the deletion within 30 days.


2. What Gets Deleted vs Retained

Permanently Deleted

  • Name, email, phone number
  • Profile photo and bio
  • Delivery addresses
  • Saved items and wishlists
  • Messages (after 90-day window)
  • Device tokens and push preferences
  • Browsing and search history
  • Reviews written (anonymised)
  • GPS and location history

Retained (Legal Obligation)

  • Order and payment records — 7 years
  • KRA eTIMS invoice records — 7 years
  • Withholding Tax certificates — 7 years
  • Security audit logs — 2 years
  • Dispute records (anonymised) — 2 years

Retained records are anonymised wherever legally permissible. Your name and contact details are removed from retained financial records as soon as the law allows.


3. Deletion Timeline

Immediately
Your account is disabled. You cannot sign in. Your profile is removed from public view. Active sessions are revoked.
Within 24 Hours
Your listings are removed from the marketplace. Your profile photo and public data are purged from the CDN.
Within 14 Days
Personal data is deleted from primary databases. Chat history is removed. Notification tokens purged.
Within 30 Days
All personal data is permanently deleted from backup systems. The deletion is complete. A confirmation email is sent if your email is still accessible.
7 Years
Legally required financial and tax records are permanently deleted per the Kenya Income Tax Act Cap. 470 and KRA eTIMS regulations.

4. Facebook Login Data Deletion

If you connected SOKONI using Facebook Login, Facebook may notify us when you remove SOKONI from your Facebook apps or request data deletion via Facebook's settings. We process these automated requests within 30 days via our secure data deletion callback.

How to remove SOKONI from Facebook

  1. Visit facebook.com/settings/applications (or tap Settings & Privacy → Settings → Apps and Websites on the Facebook app).
  2. Find SOKONI in the list of connected apps.
  3. Tap Remove and confirm.
  4. Facebook will automatically send a deletion request to SOKONI. We process it within 30 days.

Alternatively, delete your SOKONI account directly using the self-service method above, which also disconnects your Facebook login.

Our automated Facebook data deletion callback endpoint:

This endpoint is registered with Meta and receives deletion notifications directly from Facebook's servers. It verifies each request signature using HMAC-SHA256 before processing.


5. Check Your Deletion Status

If you received a confirmation code after requesting deletion, enter it below to check your request status.


6. Data Rights Request Form

Use this form to request deletion of your data, request a copy of your data, or exercise any other right under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019. We respond within 30 days as required by the KDPA.

This form is also available for users who connected via Facebook and cannot sign in to the app directly.
